Asante Kotoko emerged victorious over rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on match week 13 of the 224/2025 Ghana premier league at the Baba Yara Stadium courtesy a late goal by enterprising forward Albert Amoah.

Kotoko faced minum threat throughout 90 minutes though there were moments which appeared challenging. Both teams did not really stick their neck out in terms of possession in the first half. Kotoko held on to possession but Hearts of Oak took over with sublime touches from Hussein Mohammed and Salim Adams.

Albert Amoah came close to registering the opener but quick recovery from center back Kelvin Osei Asibey meant the former Great Olympics striker couldn’t shoot at goal. Baba Yahaya stepped up with a wonderful dummy to beat Samuel Amofa but surprisingly with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare at his mercy Yahaya failed to hit the target.

Back from recess, Kelvin Osei Asibey territorial dominance continued. The former Karela United center back stifled threats from Albert Amoah and Peter Amidu Acquah with  well timed clearance and tackles. Mawuli Wayo’s cameo from the bench nearly resulted in a goal. After beating Lord Amoah in a foot race Wayo unleashed a thunderbolt which was parried by goalkeeper Mohammed Kamara.

In search of the match winner, coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum introduced Elvis Kyei Baffour and Emmanuel Antwi. The latter fired in a curler which missed the goal by inches before the 90 minutes mark. Kotoko finally breached Hearts of Oak’s defensive line in injury time. Albert Amoah nicked it at the death after miscommunication between Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare presented a clear goalscoring chance.

Hearts of Oak have now recorded four consecutive defeats against Kumasi Asante Kotoko. This win lifts Kotoko to sixth on the league table and drops Hearts to seventh. Ogum’s team will hope to keep the momentum going as they eye another decent season.

Despite the win, supporters of Asante Kotoko were not impressed with the performance of referee Ntow Ntiamoah due to his decision not to award the home side a penalty in the second half.
