Damango MP Samuel Abu Jinapor has expressed confidence in Kofi Adams’ ability to revamp Ghanaian football, particularly the Black Stars, following their recent setbacks.

Adams, 49, was vetted last week by the Appointments Committee and is expected to be sworn in by President John Mahama in the coming days, replacing Mustapha Ussif as the Minister of Sports.

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has faced significant challenges recently, notably failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

This marks the first time since 2004 that Ghana will miss the tournament, highlighting a decline in the nation’s football fortunes. The team’s performance in the qualifiers was subpar, finishing at the bottom of their group without securing a single victory.

In Parliament, Jinapor stated, “Mr. Speaker, on the Minister-designate for Sport, the Honourable Kofi Adams. Mr. Speaker, he’s been on the political front for a long time, for a while now, and we all know him.

“He’s a colleague, and I believe he’s capable of reviving Ghanaian sports, particularly the Black Stars.”

Adams is anticipated to address critical issues in the sports sector, including improving infrastructure, securing funding for national teams, and enhancing performance in major tournaments.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as Ghana seeks to redeem its status and achieve success on the international stage.
