It was the first game of the second round of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the stakes were high for both teams after augmenting their squads in January transfer window.

Kotoko went into the game having recorded four consecutive wins in their last 5 games. The recent victory was an emphatic 4-1 win over Vision FC. The travelers on the other hand had lost their last three outings and remained winless in the last five.

The first half of the game saw wonderful exchanges from both sides with Asante Kotoko more determined to get the opener but were kept at bay by Karela’s defense.

The breakthrough came when Justice Blay converted from the spot. Karela’s Ganiu Mohammed Abdul had a touch but failed to stop the ball from kissing the net.

The win sends Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side to the top of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League.
