I feel Black Stars are back on track after back-to-back wins – Maxwell Konadu

Former Black Stars assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu, beleives the senior national team is back on track following their recent impressive results.

After a poor campaign in 2024, the Black Stars ended their six-match winless run with back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday 5 and 6 games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana secured a resounding 5-0 win against the Chadians at the Accra Sports Stadium before a 3-0 win against the Malagasy in Morocco.

These results have enhanced the four-time African champions’ chances of qualifying for the Mundial, which will be hosted in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.

“I feel we are back on track. Some may argue that the countries we defeated are not top there, but football has evolved to the point where you cannot underestimate anyone. If they can play this same way against Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, and anyone else, we will be very competitive,” Konadu told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“Almost doesn’t count in my opinion, you just have to make sure you’re there, so all we have to do is focus about the immediate match and get that out of the way, and then we can see our way clear.

“We shouldn’t believe that just because we’re home and dry, we should be complacent.”

He also cautioned the playing body to stay focused and secure qualification.

“I think the boys are professionally good and top players, so I don’t think they will lose guard and will continue to do their best to get Ghana to the World Cup,” he added.

Ghana, who now sit at the top of Group I with 15 points, will take on Chad and Mali in the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the qualifiers in September before wrapping up their qualifiers against Comoros and Central African Republic.
