Former West African Football Academy midfielder Augustine Boakye was on the scoresheet for Saint Etienne on Sunday. His late goal secured a crucial point for AS Saint-Étienne in their French Ligue 1 clash against Nantes.
Boakye, who started the match on the bench, was introduced in the second half as his side struggled to overturn a deficit.
With AS Saint-Étienne trailing, the 24-year-old midfielder showcased his technical prowess and game awareness, making an instant impact.
Nantes had taken the lead early in the game through Moses Simon, who weaved past defenders before unleashing a powerful strike into the top left corner in the 14th minute, leaving ASSE goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur helpless.
However, as the clock wind down, Augustine Boakye stepped up in the 86th minute with a moment of individual brilliance. He drilled in a long-range shot that soared past the Nantes goalkeeper and hit into the left corner of the net
His crucial equaliser marked his third goal in 11 appearances for AS Saint-Étienne this season. This attest to his growing influence in the team.
The midfielder will hope his impressive form will earn him a starting role in the starting eleven.
