Arsenal open talks to renew Partey’s contract

Arsenal have opened talks to extend midfielder Thomas Partey’s contract to keep him at the Emirates following an impressive performance this season.

The former Athletico player will be a free agent at the end of the season and clubs notably Barcelona, Al Nassr and former club Athletico Madrid have been linked to the Ghanaian.

The 31-year-old is reported to be happy with life in London and Arsenal and would love to have a two-year extension with the club.

Mikel Arteta did indicate in an interview that measures have been taken by the club to tie the midfielder to a new deal.

Having joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Partey has played an important role in the club’s progress, despite a number of spells out through injury. Having scored four goals in over 44 appearances this season, it is fair to say Partey is enjoying his best spell at Arsenal.

He will miss the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain next week but should return for the reverse fixture on May 7.
