Manchester United will sell Alejandro Garnacho to Napoli if the Serie A leaders meet their £70million asking price.
United want more for the Argentina star, who signed a five-year deal in April 2023, and Chelsea are also closely monitoring his situation. Chelsea also want England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, but United are loathe to sell both stars in the January transfer window.
They are prepared to cash in on Garnacho to fund Amorim’s huge rebuilding job at Old Trafford and the South American looks ill at ease in his 3-4-3 formation. The 20-year-old has become a peripheral figure at Old Trafford and has managed just one goal and one assist under Amorim.
United are keen to drive up the asking price for Garnacho after having a £23million offer for Lecce’s Danish international Patrick Dorgu rejected. The Serie A side want £33million for Dorgu, who has emerged as United’s top left-back target.
Lecce president Sticchi Damiani said: “We met with Manchester United and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu. “We’re delighted to have Manchester United here to make a proposal, but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial.”
United are keen to offload those players who have no future under Amorim and Marcus Rashford prefers a loan move to Barcelona over Borussia Dortmund. His representatives have met both clubs and he has set his heart on a move to the Nou Camp.
However United must pick up a sizeable chunk of his reported £325,000-a-week wages to make a deal happen. Antony is close to agreeing a loan move to Real Betis, with United agreeing paying part of his reported £200,000-a-week salary.
Betis have fought off competition from La Liga rivals Villarreal for the £82million flop, who has managed just one Premier League goal for United since April 2023.
