The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar this month.
The Leicester City forward retains the armband in the absence of his elder brother, André Ayew, who has been left out of the squad despite his impressive 4 goals haul this season for French side Le Havre.
The new development confirms earlier reports in the media that Jordan Ayew was going to be named as new captain of the Black Stars.
Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey who previously served as André Ayew’s assistant, has opted out of any leadership position in the team.
Black Stars aim to bounce back from their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, so these qualifiers are seen as a crucial test for the national team.
Ayew, who has been a key figure for the Black Stars, will lead the squad as they seek to secure maximum points in their quest for a World Cup ticket.
Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before travelling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24.
The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points, level with leaders Comoros.
